José Ugaz
Master in Legal Research from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. Lawyer, professor of law at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and founding partner of the firm Benites, Vargas & Ugaz. Former global president of Transparency International and of Proética, its local chapter in Peru. He served as ad hoc prosecutor in the historic case that criminally investigated former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori and a vast network of public and private agents for various economic and corruption crimes. He was a member of the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission and the United Nations Electoral Observation Mission in El Salvador. He served in the Office of Institutional Integrity of the World Bank.
In December 2023, he was awarded the "International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award" in the category of "Lifetime or Outstanding Achievement", granted by the ROLACC Foundation and UNODC. He is a member of the Ethics Tribunal of the Peruvian Press Council and member of the Integrity Commission of the Lima Chamber of Commerce. He completed undergraduate and graduate studies at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, where he is a senior professor of criminal law. He attended specialization programs at the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague and at the University of Salamanca. He is the author of several books, including "Prensa juzgada", "Caiga quien caiga" and "Gran corrupción y derechos humanos".
